Learning to Lean

The last six weeks or so have been hectic to say the least.  My husband, Mickey, is recovering from a stroke that shook our lives and left us a bit bewildered.
It began while Mickey was saying something and mid-sentence his speech became garbled.  At first I thought he was kidding around.  Realization came when I found his left side paralyzed and his left side of his mouth drooping.  I called 911.  Things took off from there!
As it turned out, he experienced an expansion of the first stroke, had three stays in the hospital, endured every test the doctors could dream up, and is now using a walker at home.  He is getting therapy twice a week to improve his coordination.  His eyesight was affected but seems to be improving.
I must say here that he received excellent care from all the doctors, nurses, and staff members of ETMC in Tyler, TX.   They even accommodated my staying in the room with Mickey.   (After a few rough nights, I finally learned the secret of sleeping comfortably in those hard plastic hospital recliners----PILLOWS-at least three!)
Family, wonderful family---there's not enough words to thank them all.   Thanks for all the support!    Thanks to Mickey's bowling buddies, too, for cards and caring. Thanks for all the prayers.
Most of all, we thank the good Lord!   The old hymn, "Learning to Lean Upon Jesus" "says where we are these days.   Mickey's active life is at least temporarily disrupted.  He's had to adjust to a slower pace but he is doing it well.  He doesn't even complain about my driving!  For a man who bowled twice a week, did yard work and  a lot of "honey-do" projects, he  is a lot more patient than I would be.
